What are natural sound techniques?

Natural sound techniques are scientifically valid techniques that accurately capture the full sound of musical instruments in an acoustic space as a member of the audience might hear it in a good seat in a good concert hall. By full sound we mean - in the case of a 'cello for example - not just the sound radiated directly from the strings, but that from the body of the instrument and from nearby reflections, for example from the floor on which the instrument stands. These techniques preserve the natural timbre of instruments, the sonic signature of the venue and give a coherent wholeness to the result.
